Who Do I Call For Boiler Service?

Before you look up any plumbing and HVAC company to service your boiler, think twice before you make that call. Just because you see “boiler service and replacement” doesn’t mean you’ll be in good hands. By just calling, any ordinary heating company or plumber could put your life or health at risk.

I recently cleaned and checked two boilers for a customer I had worked for a few times before on plumbing issues at her duplex. I went back in October to check her boilers after pointing out the rust on the second-floor boiler and telling her that it wasn’t normal to have rust above the draft box. Here is the video showing what caused the rust and how I fixed it.

Just because you see HVAC

Consequently my  customer must have forgot I worked on boilers, even though she had my business card that said I do. Apparently, when it came time to have her boilers checked, she imediately thought “HVAC.” So she called the heating and AC guy. Not a problem, but did he know what to look for while conducting her boiler checks? Apparently not. If he did, the second floor boiler wouldn’t have been left as it was, backdrafting and making over 3,700 ppm carbon monoxide. Anything above 99 ppm is a problem. Ideally co levels should be below 20 ppm or close to zero. The video clearly shows that the boiler had some drafting problems from when it was originally installed by the installer and the service tech who worked on the boiler before I did had no idea of what was going on.

Who should I call for boiler service?

Before you fill out a boiler service request on any plumbing and HVAC website or make the call to schedule for boiler service and maintenance just because you see HVAC or heating. Stop and check to see if these words appear. The writing should state certified combustion analyst and Carbon Monoxide (CO) safety. If you do not see this on their site or are told that they dont have the certification then move on.

What they don’t know can kill you.

By having just any ordinary plumbing and HVAC company check your boiler may put you at risk to severe health issues or  life threanting danger. The video above clearly shows the hidden silent killer awaiting to escape and take its wrath.
