Main Water Service Containment

Main Water Service Containment

As of May 2019  in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, the PWSA  has been enforcing their backflow installation program. All existing and new services require the main water service containment backflow preventer. The federally mandated Safe Water Drinking Act ( SWDA) requires that all commercial accounts have main water service containment backflow preventers to prevent backflowing into the main pipe.

Existing commercial lead water services that do not have backflow prevention require replacement to a copper pipe. There is no repair or modification of lead pipe water services permitted in the City of Pittsburgh or Allegheny County.
