Before you sell a home in the Pittsburgh area
you'll likely need a dye test done
before the sale can be closed.
Why Do I need a Dye Test?
There's been a growing problem with sanitary sewers overflowing. The rain water that's supposed to be sent safely into the storm drains and onto the rivers, is instead going into the sanitary sewer. That's because many of the buildings were built with their downspouts and outside drains tied into the sanitary sewer system that's not meant to handle rain water.
So now the local municipalities require that before a deed cannot be transferred, until there is a certificate of compliance or a dye test proving the storm runoff from the downspouts and outside drains is not going into the sanitary sewer.
